Dear School Community at the Columbia Secondary School,

I am pleased to introduce your new principal, Vikram Arora, who will join us starting March 13, 2023. Mr. Arora is a highly skilled and student-focused administrator committed to developing students and staff by providing a stimulating, safe, and respectful learning environment. He brings a wealth of experience and an impressive list of achievements that will undoubtedly benefit our school.

Mr. Arora has worked as the Assistant Principal and Program Chair of Mathematics and Computer Science at Bronx High School of Science since Fall 2016. He has consistently worked to improve student achievement and successfully created and implemented college-level courses, including Algorithms, Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, and Game Theory. He also helped buttress and hone the curriculum of other advanced courses like Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Game Development, and App Development. His work with SUNY and Saint John's University to procure college credits for advanced courses has been commendable.

Mr. Arora's dedication and hard work at Bronx Science have resulted in a sharp increase (59%) in students achieving three or more in mathematics AP tests. Over the past five years, he has also developed ten new teachers into highly effective tenured teachers. His efforts have increased access to all advanced, AP, and Honors classes for the wider student body. He has also dramatically improved scholarship rates on high stake assessments like the NY Regents and AP exams.

Mr. Arora's commitment to student learning is further evident in his incorporation of Project-Based Learning into several mathematics and computer science courses. He has also implemented proficiency-based grading that involved opportunities for re-evaluation of skills, which has significantly contributed to improved student achievement and learning outcomes.

As your new principal, Mr. Arora will continue to bring his wealth of experience, commitment to student learning, and proven track record in collaborating with the school community to increase student achievement and maintain excellence in education. His trustworthiness and well-honed communication skills will enable him to develop a solid and lasting relationship with all school community members. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Arora.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sean Davenport. Superintendent, District 5
