Applying to Middle School

Eligibility
Students who live in or attend public or charter school in Districts 3, 4, 5, or 6 can apply for 6th, 7th, or 8th grades. Students who go to independent or religious school and live in one of these districts can also apply. Priority is given to students who live or attend school above 96th Street.
Applicants to the 6th grade
For 6th grade applicants coming from public school, you should only use the DOE Middle School Online Application and list Columbia Secondary School as one of your choices. For those coming from independent and religious schools, please contact our director of admissions, Ms. Roxana Bosch, via email at roxanabosch@columbiasecondary.org or via phone at 212-666-1278 ext. 5034. These applicants will have to also fill in an Online DOE application listing us as one of their choices. Families need a code to log in to their MySchools account to be able to apply. If your school cannot provide the code, you should contact the Upper Manhattan Enrollment Office: 388 West 125th Street, 7th floor. The deadline to submit an online DOE application is December 2nd, 2019.
Once our admissions team has reviewed the candidates (the last week in December), invitations will be mailed out for the CSS entrance exam. Only a percentage of students who apply to CSS will receive a letter of invitation to take the entrance exam.
