Welcome to Professor Avril's page
I am Professor Avril, and I teach 12th grade ELA, 12th grade philosophy, and 8th grade philosophy. As an undergraduate, I studied Human Development and then pursued a Masters degree in English Literature. I've been teaching in the city since 2001. I started my career at the City University of New York teaching freshman composition and higher level level writing courses, worked for a while as a high school ELA teacher, left for a few years to run my own tutoring and test preparation business, and returned when I started my job at Columbia Secondary School in 2012. A fun fact about me is that I wrote a book that came out in 2007 called Nightlight: A Memoir. My passions are facilitating discussions that center around ethics and contemporary issues, documentary films, and the memoir genre. I love hiking and being in proximity to the ocean. I also have a spunky four year old daughter who I love to hang out with when I'm not working. Please feel free to email me with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org ! I look forward to meeting you, if I haven't already.
