Why the changes to login procedures?
One of the minor inconveniences of our website had been that users were required to log in to two different locations: the CSS Portal and the Google Apps suite. This was problematic for several reasons, each of which our new solution rectifies:
- Users were often confused as to where to log in for different purposes. Now there's a single login for both sites. Much simpler.
- Users were further confused when they tried changing their password in one of the sites, as their passwords for the two parts of the website were no longer the same. This also created lots of extra work resetting passwords. Now there's only one password for both sites. Much better
- Students were only logging into their Google Apps, bypassing the CSS Portal, where all their homework assignments and course home pages are located. Now all users must pass through the CSS Portal to get to their Google Apps accounts. Much more instructionally effective.
