Safety Tips-September 2011

Be aware on the street and train

  • Remove distractions-books, cell phones, iPods/iPads or any other electronic device
  • Walk to the subway and bus with friends, preferably two, or more
  • Use main streets, do not walk through parks or the housing complex as a shortcut

Watch for large groups of teenagers or any unidentifiable people

  • Do not approach large groups, cross the street or go into a store
  • Do not engage in conversation with strangers (ex: asking what the time is, borrowing money, or asking any personal information)
  • If you need assistance with anything, come back into the school, or if you are near a store, go inside and seek assistance from an adult

Dismissal

  • After dismissal, go straight home or to your designated afterschool activity
  • Do not hang out in front of the building or in the subway
  • Plan a regular route with your family, and always let your parent/guardian know your whereabouts
  • If you feel unsafe at dismissal, notify the Safety Agent immediately

Emergency Calls

  • Call 911 if you see a crime in progress or have just been a victim of a crime.  Including, harassment or intimidation, assault or theft.  Be a good CSS citizen, and look out for each other
  • If you are a victim of a crime, please file a report with the police (NYPD 26th Precinct).  Police reports are official documents of an incident
  • Call 311 for non-emergency situations or incidents, registering complaints or making suggestions regarding the school, neighborhood or any city agency

Safe Havens

  • Safe Havens are businesses that help protect children get away from dangerous situations, or can lend use of a phone if there’s an emergency-Please familiarize yourself with those safe haven businesses along your routes to and from school.

  • Note: The red lion logo means it’s a Columbia University safe haven location; yellow is an NYPD-approved site. Both are fine; even locations without a logo in the window

 RECOMENDACIONES PARA SU MAYOR SEGURIDAD – SEPTIEMBRE DE 2011

 

Este en alerta en la calle y en el metro

·   Guarde libros, teléfonos celulares, iPods/iPads o cualquier otro aparto electrónico.

·   Camina al metro o al ómnibus acompañado de amigos, al menos de a dos o más.

·   Camina en calles principales y nunca en atajos o atravesando parques o complejos de edificios.

 

Esta alerta a grupos grandes de adolescentes o de gente desconocida

·   No te acerques a grupos grandes, cruza la calle o entra en un negocio.

·   No hables con gente desconocida (si te preguntan la hora, o te piden dinero o te preguntan cualquier tipo de información personal).

·   Si necesitas ayuda, vuelve a la escuela o si estas cerca de un negocio, entra y pide ayuda a un adulto.

 

Hora de Salida

·    Luego de la hora de salida, vuelve directo a casa o a tu actividad programada después de la escuela.

·    No te quedes con tus amigos hablando enfrente de la escuela o en el metro.

·    Planea con tu familia una ruta a seguir y siempre deja saber a tus padres o tutores en donde andas.

·    Si te sientes en peligro, avísale inmediatamente al agente de seguridad.

 

Llamadas de Emergencia

·  Llama al 911 si ves que un crimen está ocurriendo o si has sido víctima de un crimen, incluyendo acoso, intimidación, robo o asalto. Compórtate siempre como buen miembro de la comunidad de CSS, cuídate y cuida a los otros también.

·  Si eres la victima de un crimen, repórtalo a la policía y haz un informe policial (comisaria 26 de NYPD). Los informes policiales son los documentos oficiales sobre un incidente.

·    Llama al 311 para registrar quejas o incidentes o para hacer sugerencias sobre la escuela, sobre el barrio o sobre diferentes departamentos del gobierno de la ciudad siempre y cuando estos no sean de emergencia.

 

Lugares de Protección

·  Los Lugares de Protección son negocios que ayudan proteger a los niños en situaciones peligrosas de la calle. Ellos también prestan el teléfono si es que hay una emergencia.  Por favor familiarízate a lo largo de tu ruta desde y a la escuela con estos negocios

·  Aclaración: El emblema del león rojo significa que es un Lugar de Protección de la Universidad de Columbia, el emblema amarillo es de protección de NYPD y son lugares aprobados. Ambos son seguros pero también los negocios sin emblemas pueden servir de protección.

·   NYPD tiene caminos a seguir a los medios de transporte durante el horario escolar: Amsterdam W.123rd -125th y Morningside Avenue W. 123rd – 125th, Guardias para cruce en Amsterdam W. 123rd y en Morningside Ave W. 123rd.
