Life's most urgent question is, what are you doing for others?

- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
How do I set up email forwarding?
Because it's much simpler for staff, students, and parents to contact each other if we have uniform email addresses, CSS has adopted a protocol for email. The easiest way to understand this protocol is with an example:
Example student: john doe
- Student username: jdoe
- Family username(s)/email address(es):
- If John Doe has one family:jdoe_family / jdoe_family@columbiasecondary.org
- If John Doe has more than one family: jdoe_mother / jdoe_mother@columbiasecondary.org and jdoe_father / jdoe_father@columbiasecondary.org
Student email address: jdoe@columbiasecondary.org
The simplicity of this approach really pays off when teachers need to contact parents quickly, create class email lists, etc.
"But I can't be expected to check yet another email account!" one might say...
Thankfully this can be easily avoided by setting up email forwarding. Just follow these basic steps...
- Log into your CSS webmail account using your parent username.
- From the inbox, select "settings" in the upper right.
- Select the "POP and forwarding" tab.
- Enter an email address to which you would like to have your CSS emails delivered.
- Select an option from the dropdown. We recommend "keep The Columbia Secondary School's copy in my inbox"
- Scroll down and click "Save changes"
Done!
If you will not be checking your CSS account regularly, we urge you to please set up forwarding in order to help the CSS community function well to support our students!
"But I'd like to forward the emails to more than one account," one might add...
Here's how:
- When logged into your CSS webmail account, select "settings" in the upper right.
- Select the "filters" tab.
- Select the "create new filter" link.
- In the "To:" box, enter: @columbiasecondary.org
- Click "Next step"
- Check the "Forward it to" box and enter the second email address you'd like to forward the email to.
- Select "create filter"
Done!
